Public Safety Power Shutoff
You may have heard the term Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in the news, on social media or from neighbors. At Black Hills Electric Cooperative (BHEC) safety remains our top priority—for our members, employees and the communities we serve.
At this time, BHEC is not implementing PSPS. After careful evaluation, we’ve determined that preemptively shutting off power is not appropriate for our system at this time.
However, Black Hills Energy controls the distribution system that delivers power to the Provo substation. If Black Hills Energy initiates a PSPS for that line, it could affect some members of BHEC. Members who may be affected have been sent a notification letter. If you are unsure whether your service comes through our Provo substation, please contact our office for confirmation.
We do always recommend having a plan for any temporary outages that may occur, especially if you rely on electricity for water pumps, medical equipment, or communications.
We understand how important reliable electric service is to your daily life. Please know that we are committed to keeping you informed of any changes and continuing to serve you with safety and reliability at the core.
Thank you for being a valued member of Black Hills Electric Cooperative, we are here to serve you!
